As we transition from our life in Virginia/DC and prepare to enter a brand new scene in Western New York, we decided to start a column that would help bridge the news in both places so that we can all stay a bit more connected.

Friday Minutes is obviously a pun but just like minutes from a meeting, we will condense our favorite articles and blog posts from the week that we feel are definitely worth sharing. You’ll be able to sift through and find great reviews, things to do, and ideas for fabulous romantic or family dates. It truly allows us to share the best from the blogs we read every day, and hopefully you’ll find a few that will be added to your blogroll as well.

Speaking of blogroll – if you are a blogger in either the DMV or in Western New York, we are compiling a list to feature here on DC Minute.  Make sure to leave a comment with your blog so we can add it!

So without further ado, the very first of several Friday Minutes, organized by region. Happy Weekend! What are your plans?

Lindsay, over at Nickel City Pretty, shared her recent exploration of Wilkeson Pointe in Buffalo’s outer harbor. Take a look, the photos do the trick.

Though not as relevant for us, several of you are mothers, and this was a good read. Buffalo Moms puts together a good piece on Making Mom Friends.

We regularly follow Michael Chelus and his wine blog the Nittany Epicurean for the latest on NY wine. This week he gave us his thoughts on the 2013 Fox Run Vineyards Lemburger.

Washington, DC (area) Minutes:

Join Visit Alexandria’s Instagram video contest!

Visit Alexandria has launched an Instagram contest and will select a winner for an Alexandria getaway prize package. Find all the details here. Contest ends August 8, 2016.

Leave it to the Washingtonian to create a list of the 10 Wonderfully Weird Day Trips Around Washington. Many of these locations are completely new to us, and we wish we had months more to explore!

Laura Hayes and the Washington City Paper reminds us all that tweets may be deleted, but someone always catches them before they go away. Restaurants beware, people are watching.

If your eyes are getting heavy, or you’re just looking for a good cup of coffee, Lani has you covered. She’s compiled a list of the best coffee shops in DC and it was just published in Thrillist.

Washington, DC (area) Blogs:

It may not be from this past week, but Johnna (JohnnaKnowsGoodFood) nails it again with her Etiquette Tuesday post from June. Passion in a restaurant and/or any business goes a long way!

Going out to eat doesn’t always need to be an unhealthy excursion. The Bitches who Brunch share their recent visit to DC Havest, one of the restaurants in DC your waistline doesn’t need to feel badly about.

For the seafood lovers, our friend China, and one of the writers over at the Hungry Lobbyist has you covered. ‘Mussel Mania’ has come to this area restaurant, and she sounds pretty high on it.

All food doesn’t need to come from a restaurant. Lauren over at Capital Cooking has a great recipe for a strawberry crumble that caught our eye.

For now, that’s all we’ve got. There are several more blogs we’ll be including in the future, so definitely stay tuned!
