We’ve been on the prowl for great pizza lately, and it seems as if we have experienced more pie in the last few months than in the entire time we have lived here. From Pizza Vinoteca to Pizzeria Orso last week, we now have an abundance of great recommendations for someone looking for the perfect ‘za.

In an effort to round out our Old Town pizza-going experience, Scott and I sat down on the patio at RedRocks in Old Town, Alexandria, last Friday night to see what all the fuss is about. Everyone in the area seems to point to RedRocks for the best slice, while several lean in favor of Old Town’s Pizza Paradiso.

Scott and I are breaking the tie by letting you know that our hands down favorite was RedRocks – no question about it. We ordered two pies, the Red Rocks Sausage Pizza and the Roasted Eggplant (Scott puts up with my veggie selections…) and were crazy about both. It’s always surprising to me when I enjoy pizza without having to dip each bite in Spicy Ranch dressing, and the flavor on both pies was incredible. I definitely leaned in favor of the Roasted Eggplant, while Scott took down most of the Sausage.

Though it was thin crust, there was quite a bit of crust. It was delicious, but I’m not a fan of extra bread so it’s inevitable that Scott ends up with my carbohydrate discards. We are perfectly matched and compliment each others idiosyncrasies with ease.

RedRocks was the perfect choice for an evening patio spot on King Street, and it was evident that everyone else thought so too as the place was continuously packed. If you’re in the mood for great atmosphere and even better pizza, head to RedRocks in Old Town, or find them in Arlington and DC on H Street and in Columbia Heights.

Cheers!
