Romance certainly isn’t dead when it comes to planning a date night in Old Town Alexandria. A romantic date should not be solely defined by how much money dinner costs. Instead, you should consider cocktails, dinner, and the perfect way to conclude your evening. When it comes to Old Town Alexandria, romantic date ideas are abundant.

Looking for pre-dinner drinks? Here are some places we’d recommend:

1. PX – If you’re looking for some of the best beverages the DC area has to offer look no further than this speakeasy above Eamonn’s.

2. Columbia Firehouse – Vintage and history equal romance and the cocktail selection at Columbia Firehouse is just that.

3. Union Street Public House – There’s a great wrap around bar that includes even better happy hour deals. Consider pulling up a stool and ordering a gin & tonic or craft beer before dinner at Union Street.

4. Society Fair – It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Society Fair comes from the same owners as PX and several other places that appear on our list. A glass of wine can also be the perfect start to an evening, and of the wine bars in the area this is our choice.

5. Mackey’s and Mason Social – Both are recent additions to Alexandria and offer some specialty cocktails worth the trip.

Ready for a deliciously memorable meal?

1. Restaurant Eve- Cathal Armstrong can do no wrong with his widely popular Alexandria restaurant. If you’re willing to spend a few extra dollars there should be no question where you’ll make reservations.

2. Warehouse Bar & Grill – Located only a couple blocks from the water on King St., this was one of our first and favorite dates in Alexandria.

3. Brabo – The Belgian-inspired restaurant is located slightly further from the more active areas of King St., but that’s no reason to pass on one of the best meals we’ve had this year.

Several other restaurants you should consider are: A La Lucia, Majestic, Virtue Feed and Grain, and the Chart House.

After dinner cocktail?

1. Back to PX – Find a corner or seat at the bar and enjoy a drink before the night comes to an end.

2. Keep the class of your evening going with a classic cocktail from Columbia Firehouse. There’s something romantic about sipping on a 1920’s beverage with your date.

There’s more than just restaurants and bars…

1. There are few places we love more than the Alexandria waterfront,  as we got engaged there last fall. You don’t have to drive to Washington, DC to see the Washington Memorial or Capitol Building with both being visible from the edge of the docks.

2. If you don’t want to head all the way to the Potomac River, enjoy the historic setting of Alexandria’s City Hall (Market House). If the season is right you’ll have the chance to get a photo by the water fountain, too.

3. Stroll around the streets of Old Town and read the historic plaques on different buildings. Multiple times we’ve run from sign to sign as we read about the original owners of different homes, and the significant roles they have played in shaping our community.
