What better way to wrap up the month of October than with some Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations in the DC area? If this isn’t the news you were looking for, you haven’t found a good enough costume yet. Remember, be appropriate with your selections. If your costume starts with the word “slutty” choose again. If it involves painting your face to change your ethnicity, you should also consider a change. Please no one go as an Ebola victim either. Now that we’ve got those comments out of the way, get ready for some wonderful events over the next week!

Sunday (today) in DC means one thing, it’s time for brunch! Since Washington is playing Dallas on Monday night you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy yourself too.  STK is our recommendation this Sunday, October 26th, as they’ll be hosting the Monster’s Ball Halloween Brunch from 11:30-6pm. Costumes are optional and highly recommended, make sure to instagram a photo using the #STKMonstersBall tag so you can be entered into the contest, which will be announced the following week.

Running from October 30th-November 1st, Republic of Takoma Park will host several Halloween weekend events. Thursday starts off the festivities with a Belgian beer dinner for $75 a person, make sure to get reservations soon. Friday is their costume contest, pirate-themed, Halloween party with the winner receiving a $250 gift card to Republic ($50 for the runner-up). To wrap things up, they are offering a Day of the Dead brunch from 11:30-2pm on Saturday, this is a must for all those struggling from the night before.

From October 31st-November 2nd, consider a trip to Rosa Mexicano for their special Day of the Dead menu (available during dinner). The menu includes 4 incredible dishes, each well worth a trip:

  • Guacamole de Otoño with pomegranate and toasted pumpkin seeds
  • Enchiladas de Mole Poblano: two tortillas filled with shredded chicken and topped with mole sauce, onions and queso fresco
  • Buñuelos Rellenos: deep-fried vanilla ice cream coated in cinnamon buñuelo crust. Served with whipped cream and guajillo-raspberry sauce
  • Flor de Mezcal cocktail: Del Maguey Vida mezcal, agave, orange and lime with a chile de árbol and guajillo chile-salted rim.  Garnished with a traditional marigold for Day of the Dead.

Remember Oyamel is also continuing their Day of the Dead festivities until November 2nd as well. We attended their sneak peak, and can vouch for everything being offered there as well.

With so many other Halloween-costume themed parties over the next week it should be easy to find something to do. Don’t forget the several places offering great food as part of the festivities too!

Have fun and be safe!
